Undoubtably the UK version is genius. They are very different animals though (The US version already has almost 4 times as many episodes) and I think in transposing it for the American market they have done an amazing job. It is a really strong ensomble cast and the show is consistently funny, much funnier than Extras, 5 Men, The Dumb Adventures of Stupid Elaine, How I Met Your Mother, Joey, My Family, Till Death, Help Me Help You or just about any other crap they pump out on air as a comedy.
