Ep 200: Myf Warhurst, Highway Patrol, Surprise Guests

200 episodes! Wow. It seems like only yesterday we were preparing for our 200th episode (and John’s 54th) and now it’s here already.

The beautiful and delightful Myf Warhurst joins us to talk about Spicks & Specks.

Also, “You’re under arrest” is not one of the things Acting Sergeant Alisdair Farrell says to us. We talk to him about how the police are portrayed in drama and also how they can do their jobs with cameras all up in their grill. He’s on yet another Cops-style show, Highway Patrol.

There’s some special surprises in-store including a guest appearance by our very own James Talia, live from some balcony at Channel 9. (Oh, now that’s no longer a surprise. Damn!)

Contact us by sending us email or send us an SMS on 0458 288 837 (0458 CUTTER)

Thanks so much to everybody who helped make this show wonderful. All the contributions were sublime.

Thanks also to the people who made the last 200 episodes an absolute joy: Marieke Hardy, Nerida Haycock, Tim Ferguson, Pete Smith, Wil Anderson, Daniel Burt, Anne-Marie Peard, Narrelle M. Harris, Jess McGuire, Wilbur Wilde, Ray Punjer, Jim Schembri, Ed Phillips, John Safran, Anna Brain, Josie Parelli, Jeff Jenkins, David Knox, Brian Nankervis, the man with the chicken, Tom Elliot, Matt Govoni, Gerard McCulloch, Ryan Shelton, Janet A. 4. so if brett does his best thinking in the shower, does that mean he only does 5 minutes of thinking a day or that he is a wally with water?

congratulations on the 200th show – great episode this week and good times over the past 4 years.

  7. Congratulations, guys.

It's an enormous achievement to hit 200 shows, especially considering the high quality of the production. Even more so, considering the fact that it's a podcast and not a traditional radio show.

Yours is a service that simply isn't available elsewhere. Televised Revolution is doing some great things on Brisbane radio (and the podcast, of course), but the guys don't seem to have the contacts you have, or the pulling power to generate such significant interviews. I've learnt more from the JT interviews than I did in third-year journalism at Swinburne.

I really appreciate, too, that you weren't tempted to blow out this episode to three hours, losing steam halfway through and buggering the celebration. But that, in my mind, describes Boxcutters best: all three of you understand the power of restraint, and use it to deliver the best podcast in the country.

    Here's to another 200.

  10. Yes, congratulations! I sent you a birthday e-card- check your spam folder!
I was a late joiner- I believe it was the Scott Brennan episode, but it may have been 163. I have since managed to listen to all of them, and every single one was brilliant. Even when I didn't know what you were talking about.
I wish I could say Boxcutters has been to exotic places with me, but mostly it's been on 14 hour bus rides to small towns in the middle of the woods, on school buses, and in bed. Congratulations and keep up the good work. The world needs Boxcutters.

Congratulations on making the bicentenary. Keep up the excellent work. Myf's interview was very good, as was Sgt Farrell's.

You *can* be fined for displaying P-plates when you're on a full licence. One of the police from the Highway Patrol spoke on a radio station recently (3RRR?). He'd pulled over a driver, who was over the alcohol limit for a P-plater. The driver got out the receipt showing he's now a fully licenced driver as of that day, and avoided the DUI. He got a ticket instead for incorrectly displaying P-plates.

Sure, you all deserve some credit for putting together 200 shows but what about me? I've LISTENED to 200 shows. Where are my congratulations? Where are my e-cards? Where's my phone call from Margaret?

Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know, Boxcutters, that I couldn't have done it without you. So congratulations and well done. You are the wind beneath my wings.

  19. Just a quick erratum: John Safran's Race Relations runs for 30 minutes. I think the incorrect 1 hour running time came from the Herald-Sun – should have seen that coming.

Have to say that stumbling across Boxcutters about two & a half years ago really did change my life… It's been a joy and a pleasure and I hopeit continues. YAY FOR YOU!

PS: The photos in public thing is true both ways, but cops don't like it much when it's turned on them, not that they can do anything about it.

  28. Yeah, I got on board at Episode 4 – The Safran Interview (and still one of the funniest “sound things you play between segments” (cannot think of the technical name!)), thanks to a relative of one of the Boxcutters crew.

Great work guys, great 200 episodes…. and 199 great interviews πŸ˜‰ /joke. Keep it up, listening to Boxcutters makes me smarter and lets me sound all TV knowledgeable around my friends, without having to subject myself to actually watching it!

  31. Ahhh, the Mighty 200! Doctor Who's 200th story was the Planet of the Dead. It was lazy eyecandy with no depth. Not so the Boxcutters 200th! A fabulous episode! I laughed, I cried, I got tasered.

Thank you guys for another great show. And thanks too for having your old episodes available.

    Here's to the next 200!
