News just in from 9

The following media release was sent out yesterday (Sunday) afternoon:

The Nine Network announced today Paul Waldren had resigned as the Managing Director of Channel Nine Melbourne.

But Nine’s long standing relationship with Mr Waldren will continue, utilising his expertise as a consultant to the Network.

Mr Waldren will remain with Nine until a replacement is found - a process that is already underway.

“Paul has contributed so much to the Nine Network over the last 20 years and he will continue to be a force at Nine as a consultant on many levels,” said Mr Eddie McGuire, Nine Network CEO.

“It’s a fitting departure for Paul, as Nine Melbourne celebrates winning the ratings year, claiming 22 consecutive weekly wins for 2006. I thank Paul for his commitment and drive to ensure Nine is still the one. I am delighted we will be able to draw on his expertise moving forward.”

Mr Waldren said: “My time at Nine has been the greatest opportunity of my business life, one that has given me the opportunity to work alongside some of the greats in the television and media industry. I look forward to the next chapter and continuing to make a contribution to the best television and media company in Australia.”

It’s interesting to see, I think, that no reason has been given for the split. Obviously it’s amicable with Waldren continuing on and being quoted in the release itself. Still, questions remain as to what would make someone leave a job they so obviously enjoy during such a difficult time at an organisation.

Sure, they spin it as 22 consecutive wins, but the victories have not been nearly as convincing this year as they have in the past.

Very sad to hear Ross Warneke has died.

His forthright opinions will be missed.

Our thoughts are with his family.

Remember Boxcutters episode 49? Oh, how we laughed and laughed and laughed.

It was the week when Dicko’s Australian Celebrity Survivor and David Tench Tonight started and RoBo and BreBo laughed about them. The Crap TV and Raywatch were such a hoot!

And the Ratings report and TV/Internet crossover episodes - I couldn’t stop chuckling.

All that and the News and APT too. I’m still laughing now… oh, stop it!

Send us more laughs: hooray@boxcutters.net

Paris loves Paris

Thursday
Aug 24,2006

From yourTV:

Paris Hilton’s debut album Paris has at least one fan - Paris Hilton. The socialite-turned-reality TV star-turned-singer told Blender magazine her music debut is so good, she cries when she listens to it.

But it’s not just Paris who’s a fan of her music. “They love it,” she said, describing the alleged reaction when her album was played to club-goers without them knowing whose music it was. “Everyone’s like, ‘Who is this?’”

“I think when people don’t know it’s me, they won’t judge it,” Paris continued. “But if they know it’s me, then they’ll be like, ‘Ugh.’ They won’t even dance.”

The 25-year-old star’s debut album is currently on sale in Australia.

RIP The Master

As reported by Brett in last nights recording The Master has been axed.

This is absolutely ridiculous and shows the desperation of Aussie networks.

Celeb Survivor and David Tench both appeared to rate well enough to continue at least for the time being - Aussie Survivor outrating it’s American counterpart - but it’s early days.

Celeb Survivor was an absolute abomination.

Much more on it when I have composed my thoughts.

Borat & Tench

A few weeks back I mentioned the up coming Borat movie directed by Larry Charles and we speculated about whether it is all scripted or the usual Borat madness.

THIS should answer the question. Looks very, very funny.

Also last ep we speculated over whether David Tench interviews real people. Pat Rafter is the guest this week and I don’t think he was animated (although it isn’t that easy to tell with Rafter). The point is moot for us anyway - we are generally wrapping up the show around the time this will go to air so we won’t see it and the video will obviously be tied up with Celeb Survivor.

Although we maybe stuck with Hotdogs and Midnight Clone.

This was left in a comment in a hidden away little place and I thought it deserved a little more exposure.

Good work Matt - none of us happened upon that episode…

Hey Boxcutters,

Matt Boxcutter here. Got home last night, a few beers and a dodgy souvlaki short of my usual self and decided that I would tune into ‘Quizmania’ on Network Eddie. Well…imagine my surprise when I saw that yes…it was Quizmania…but no…there was no quiz. A glitch in the Netwrok Eddie phone system meant that the hosts (two women, who i have never seen before…and after last night…may never see again) had to ‘improvise’ for an hour or so. We were ‘treated’ to speculation about Jessica Simpson’s sexual proclivity…a race between one of the girls (on a trolley pushed by the floor manager) and a monkey (on a trolley pusehd by one of the camera people)…enquiries about the wellness of the crew…a discussion about John English looking like a Panda…and a lot of sunglasses on…sunglasses off…pained banter. I’m not sure if Eddie was watching, but the girls were just about to read out a joke email (yes…it had come to that) when they both grabbed their ear pieces…apologised…and said to stay tuned for some Drew Carey. Drew Carey followed…then another ten minutes of trying to get the phones to work…and then back to Drew Carey. The best late night entertainment that any of the three networks is liekly to put on for some time, and thoroughly enjoyable. Who would have thought that those quiz shows are actually better without the quiz element?

Cheers,

Matt.
