PBL Buys Nine(WA)

Wednesday
Feb 21,2007

Reported in the Age today, PBL has brought Ch. 9 - the W.A. Flavour.

“The acquisition of Channel Nine Perth is a good strategic fit with the Nine Network Australia…”

I suppose when your hair is on fire, buying anything that starts with ‘Channel 9′ would be a good fit! ;)

Here it finally is. We are back in our usual form.

James Talia joins us on the phone from London to talk about the world of a European Correspondent and how Nine have managed to maintain their international edge. There’s some talk of ratings and a review of the Sunday night shows as well as a discussion of ACA vs TT and the Schappelle/Jody/Mercedes shenanigans.

Love it or die trying:

But please don’t die:Talk To Us: hooray@boxcutters.net

I may have been a little too hasty with my assessment of the current season of Simpsons. The most recent episode features Bart getting his drivers licence. Call me picky, but to me this is a little to similar to the classic episode from a few years back where BART GETS HIS LICENCE.

Ridiculous. The repetition is one thing, but such an unlikely and easily remembered premise being repeated is just stupid.

Also, after my ranting and raving (and possible spolier-ing) last week this week’s Lost was AWESOME. Everything I love about Lost in a fantastic little 42 odd minute package. Yum. Good work Lost people, I’m back on board. Don’t let me down again.

Trash - Both Here and Abroad

There are some stunning examples of humanity floating around on the TV at the moment, making for great watching.

Entertainment Tonight is going gangbusters on the whole Anna Nicole death, devoting entire shows to the aftermath in a fashion not seen by them since it was nothing but OJ, credits to credits. Of course they have been covering the whole Bahamas/Dannielynn/drug binge pretty hard since Smith’s son died in September last year and because of that they’ve been in the right place at the right time and in tight with that loopey possible father and great quote giver Howard K Stern. Riverting stuff.

Meanwhile closer to home the Jodi/Mercedes/Schapelle wars have been great current affairs fodder. If it keeps up this weeks entire Boxcutters may end up being one giant Raywatch.

Come back Media Watch! I would love to see their take on it all.

Roll out the barrel….

Hey all - Join us as we leisurely pick our way through the bits and pieces of television whatever for the week.

There’s News, so you are informed and update with all TV’s doings. It’s that time of year again so we take a look at the big ratings wars, focusing in on Monday and Wednesday showdowns. We lift the embargo long enough to rant and rave and rant some more about the insidious new footy broadcast deal. We dive into the somehow life affirming crapness that is The Con Test. There is a sneak peek at the new Series 18 of The Simpson. All this and a generous helping of Pork.

Enjoy:

New Lost

Anybody see the new ep of Lost from the US this week(S03 Ep7)?

I like the bit where Kate said she wanted off the island and Sawyer said sure, we’ll just use my motorcycle to jump that shark and we’ll be free………

The Age reported yesterday that Channel 9 has “backed down” from using Outrageous Fortune as local content. It’s an interesting choice in rhetoric about 9 given they have always claimed they never needed Outrageous Fortune to reach their quota of local content.

(According to the artical the decision to show Outrageous Fortune as local content “angered Australian actors”. Well I guess that fits, actors are the most important people in the industry, if not the world)

Mind you The Age is also reporting that CBS is shooting a pilot based on David Lynch’s ‘Wild At Heart’. As fun and as short lived as that would be, the series is actually based on the twee British family drama of the same name about a vet who drags his family off to Africa which screened here on 10 recently. One of a very large number of British remakes on the cards, including Blackpool and Footballers Wives.

You asked for a longer show and you got a longer show. 62ish semi-solid minutes of non-stop Boxcutters. We talk about the Superbowl ads (which you can find here), Ross doesn’t buy Pensioners Insurance, Brett finally reviews So noTORIous, and there’s a look back at the Summer of Sport.

Of course there’s Pork and the News as well.

Amuse yourselves:

Looks like we’ll be recording Monday nights (at least for the next little while) so episodes should be available Monday night, Tuesday morning for your listening pleasure.

But what will the length be? Back to the traditional podcast length? Longer than the radio shows? Or a whole new length just to keep you on your toes?

Guess you’ll have to wait and see………

Channel 7 had a crushing victory last night, led by Heroes with a little over 2 mil nationally.

Very impressive figures. It will be very interesting to see how it goes once the immensely popular House returns on 10.
