   The more I hear about slashing at Nine, the more I’m reminded of Satellite Five in Doctor Who – who/what will be left at the end of all this?

   There’s a lot of role ‘absorption’ going on at 9. That’s cost-cutting language, that is. CVC doesn’t see a television network, it sees an office.

   Nine’s press release (my emphasis):

   THE CATCH UP CEASES PRODUCTION

   The Nine Network Australia today announced that a decision had been taken to cease production on its weekday talk show, The Catch Up.

   Viewed as a bold move earlier this year, The Catch Up was one of a number of initiatives that demonstrates the Network’s commitment to Australian programming.

   “We thank the team at The Catch Up for their enthusiasm, dedication and belief in the product. Libbi Gorr, Lisa Oldfield, Mary Moody and Zoe Sheridan have shown true leadership and we wish them all the very best for their future,” said Jeff Browne, Executive Director, Nine Network Australia.

   “Executive Producer, Tara Smithson, and her production team have been passionate in their pursuit to deliver an interesting and thought provoking daily chat show. We thank them for their hard work,” Browne added.

   The Network is reviewing The Catch Up’s staff structure and the redeployment opportunities.

   The final broadcast will occur on Friday 15th June, 2007.

   The show will be replaced by midday movies.

   Why do they abort quality in week 3 and leave the dross lingering for months? I’m aware The Catch-Up was cheap to produce but honestly.

   Viewed as a bold move? By who?

   A limp third rate panel show The View ripoff is not in anyway a commitment to Australian programming.

   Should have held on to The Young and The Restless while you could Nine.

   Quizmonkey was a gala affair last night with all the crew in black tie and Kat looking fine on the occasion of the 200th show. Of course I only knew the crew were all in black tie because there were more gremlins in the phone system and they couldn’t actually play any of the games.

   Kat was left to chat to camera operators and the floor manager – who does manage to get his mug on screen quite regularly – asking them what their fondest moments of the past 200 shows were – a question no one could really come up with a good answer for, resorting, instead, to the nice things that happen generally like viewers sending in their pictures and how good it feels when people win money.

   We did get to glimpse the video feed on the autocue on the cameras, explaining why they never need to look away from camera to see the messages coming up on the tower.

   I watched ten minutes of it before flipping but checked back later on and they had things working again.

    Naomi Robson? Channel 7 is full but she’d be ideal as the dregs of Channel 9.

    I don’t know if anyone checks this far down the page, but this makes curious reading.
